HMC

HMC =Hardware Management Console

The HMC is a seperate machine (often an 1U intel xeon server) that manages 1 or more pSeries servers. The HMC connects to the system through a HMC network, which is an ethernet network connected to special ports on the servers, replacing need of a console connection. Over the HMC network the HMC can create, start and stop LPARs and open consoles to manage the LPARs. The HMC can be managed through console commands or through a GUI, in which the virtual consoles are Java applets.
