LPAR
From AIXWiki
LPAR = Logical Partition
A LPAR can be seen as a virtual server running on a pSeries server. The LPAR can be assigned a number of available processors, relative processing power, memory and I/O devices. The amount of "power" the system has can be changed as the partition is activated allowing memory and processpower to be used there where needed. Due to the ability of the system to self regulate the amount of processig power it is adviced that during the creation of the LPAR the minimum desired and maximum values are all different values. Most commonly I/O is designated to the LPAR as virtual devices which are linked to the hardware through a special configured LPAR (a VIO server or VIOS). In most cases the LPAR's are managed by a HMC, but this is not mandatory.
